Democratic vice-presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, visited a historically Black university and a minority-owned barbershop Monday as she swept into North Carolina on a mission to win over the state’s nearly 1.5 African-American voters. The U.S. senator from California visited White’s Barber and Beauty Shop in Raleigh and spoke at Shaw University, telling her audience that the November presidential race is about “who we are, what we stand for, and who we want to be.”

But more than a few African-American leaders across the state have made it clear that Harris does not stand for them.

“I call her ‘Miss lock up a brother’ for when she was the AG in California, a negro knew, a Black man knew that he was dead in the water … if you appear before her, because she took pride in locking up Black folk. And all of a sudden she’s trying to be sister girl,” Bishop Patrick Wooden Sr. of the Upper Room Church of God in Christ in Raleigh, told his congregation on Aug. 16.

He challenged Harris’ record on criminal justice and called out her support for the LGBT agenda, showing his parishioners a video of Harris performing a same-sex wedding.

“Anybody who’s trying to turn America into Sodom and Gomorrah is not good for this nation,” Wooden said. “I like what Maya Angelou says. She says, ‘when people show you who they are, believe them.’ That’s Kamala.”

For members of Conservative Clergy of Color, a recently formed coalition of African-American pastors, Harris has shown herself as someone who has lauded the “brilliance” of Black Lives Matter founders even as the group’s protests have led to arson, vandalism and deadly violence.

“It’s extremely disheartening to see a U.S. Senator and a candidate for vice president give such high praise to a group that is trying to destroy our country,” Bishop Aubrey Shines, CCC co-founder, told The Christian Post.

Sen. Harris told attendees at the NAACP national convention that she prefers to interpret the protests as “an essential component of evolution in our country.” And she called Black Lives Matter “the most significant agent for change within the criminal justice system.”

“Does Sen. Harris not watch the news? Has she not seen the businesses burning, the livelihoods that have been wrecked by this organization?” Shines asked. “People are terrified, but we have to praise the organizers because it’s the cool thing to do.”

Sen. Harris has also provoked the ire of African-American pro-life leaders.

The Rev. Johnny Hunter, national director of the Life Education and Resource Network (LEARN) and pastor of worship at Cliffdale Community Church in Fayetteville, has long proclaimed that abortion has been used as a tool for Black genocide.

“The time has come for us to realize that we, our people, are no longer being illegally lynched one or two at a time at the end of a dirt road. It’s time for us to realize that our people are being womb lynched!” Hunter has preached, pointing out that most abortion businesses are strategically placed in Black neighborhoods.

Harris has benefited from hundreds of thousands of dollars in political donations from Planned Parenthood. Further, as Attorney General, she went out of her way to make pro-life investigator David Daleiden the first and only case of criminal enforcement of California’s video recording law.

Daleiden, president of the Center for Medical Progress, told the media on Aug. 20 that Harris has a “radical disrespect and contempt for the First Amendment.” After Daleiden captured footage of Planned Parenthood officials discussing the sale of aborted baby parts, Harris authorized a raid of his apartment to seize the means of publishing the videos.

“Harris is a rabid supporter of abortion rights, a champion of the LGBT agenda and believes the destructive BLM protests are essential,” said the Rev. Mark Creech, executive director of the Christian Action League. “It’s not surprising that, despite the Biden campaign’s $280 million in ads aimed at minority voters in swing states such as North Carolina, many Black leaders are not embracing her message.”

“Our prayer is that regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or any other factor, voters use Scripture to evaluate candidates before casting their ballots next month. No candidate will satisfy the biblical principles perfectly. Still, even a cursory examination of each candidate’s policy positions, as well as those of their political party, will reveal certain matters of fundamental moral and political import that Christians should not, must not, vote to support.”
